At just 14 years old, Ana "Rey" Lopez Alcantar became the youngest person to serve as a Deputy Committeeperson in Cook County, Illinois. Her commitment to activism began even earlier. At the age of nine, she joined the fight to stop the closure of her elementary school during Chicago's historic wave of 50 public school closures. More recently, Ana has been a familiar face outside the Broadview Detention Center, speaking out against ICE activity in the Chicagoland area and advocating for immigrant families. Throughout her life, Ana has been a passionate champion for her Latine community and for those whose voices are too often overlooked.

Now, Ana needs our advocacy. As she fights to recover from a traumatic brain injury, we are fighting to ensure she has access to the therapies and care she needs. We need Ana back with us, continuing the work she has dedicated her life to: standing up for marginalized communities and making Chicago a more just place for everyone.
